The milestone came at Busch Stadium and in a 9-2 victory.
Pujols stood on second base and waved his helmet in appreciation of the standing ovation by 42,042 fans after recording the hit. The Cubs waited, giving Pujols his moment.
"I think if they would have kept going, I think a couple of drops would have come out of my eyes," Pujols said. "To be able to share this moment with them is incredible. Hopefully, I can continue to do it the rest of my career."
M's End 17-Game Skid

Lugo Ruled Safe At Home As Braves Beat Pirates In 19
Julio Lugo scored from third base on a contested play at the plate, giving the Braves a 4-3 win in 19 innings over the Pirates early Wednesday morning.
Lugo took on Scott Proctor's grounder to third baseman Pedro Alvarez, whose throw to catcher Michael McKenry easily beat Lugo to the plate.
Lugo tried to avoid McKenry's tag with a pop-up slide. Replays indicated McKenry made the tag, but home plate umpire Jerry Meals called Lugo safe.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle argued the call vigorously, following Meals off the field as the Braves celebrated.
Rangers Score 20 Runs; Twins Use Cuddyer As Reliever
The Rangers enjoyed the biggest offensive night in baseball this season, scoring 20 runs against the Twins on Monday night.
Texas became just the third team in baseball history to put up at least three runs in each of the first five innings as the Rangers added five in the fourth and four in the fifth.
"The first five innings looked like a ZIP code, that will tell you how it went ... 33354," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "I think that's Florida ... Fort Lauderdale."
Things were so one-sided that Michael Cuddyer moved from right field to the mound to pitch the eighth for the Twins. Cuddyer gave up a double to Napoli, a bloop single to Mitch Moreland, and walked Kinsler with one out to load the bases.
But Cuddyer retired Elvis Andrus on a fly ball and David Murphy on a pop-up for a scoreless inning.
The last Twins position player to pitch was outfielder John Moses against California on July 31, 1990.
Bonifacio's Streak Hits 23 Games
Leading off the first inning on Sunday, Florida's Emilio Bonifacio lined a single to right off New York's Dillon Gee to extend his hitting streak to 23 games.
"You want to make good contact," Bonifacio said. "You can't always control where it's going to go, but I want to hit the ball on the ground. [Hitting the ball deep] is not part of my game."
More than the streak, the Marlins are preaching to Bonifacio the importance of reaching base any way he can.
"He is doing things right. He's getting on base," hitting coach Eduardo Perez said. "We're telling him, 'You've got to get on base three times, we don't care how.'"
Trout Hits First Major-League HR
Angels rookie Mike Trout rewarded the team for not sending him down to the minor leagues by hitting the first home run of his major-league career on Sunday.
With family and friends in attendance, Trout hit a 3-1 pitch from Baltimore's Mark Worrell into the left field seats to turn a 3-2 lead into a four-run cushion.
"It was just awesome out there," said Trout, the youngest player in the majors. "It's definitely special. I think it's my parents' first home run they've seen in pro ball that I hit in a game."
To make the afternoon even more perfect, the fan who caught the ball gave it to Trout after the game.
Trout entered the game with a .162 average and only two RBIs.
Matsui Hits 500th Pro Home Run
Hideki Matsui has fervently preached a team first belief throughout his entire career, making the A's 7-5 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday a win-win outcome for the DH.
Matsui collected a pair of go-ahead hits in the game, the first coming in the form of his 500th professional home run between the U.S. and Japan, a solo shot off Detroit starter Duane Below in the sixth inning to untie a 2-2 game.
Red Sox Top Rays 1-0 In 16 Innings
The Red Sox got an RBI single from Dustin Pedroia with two outs in the top of the 16th inning to top the Rays 1-0 on Sunday night.
Josh Beckett and five relievers combined to pitch a three-hitter for the Red Sox, who won for the eighth time in nine games.
"I just wanted to go home. I think everybody did," Pedroia said.
"They threw the ball outstanding all night and we did, too. It was a great game. I'm just happy we won."
It was the longest 1-0 game in the major leagues since the Brewers at Angels on June 8, 2004, went 17 innings.
Braves Beat Nationals For 10,000th Win
The Braves defeated the Nationals 11-1 on Friday night to record their 10,000 win.

"I felt different tonight," Prado said. "A couple of games rehabbing, I didn't feel pumped up. Being back tonight gave me that push."
The Braves trail only the Giants (10,489) and Cubs (10,277) in wins in the major leagues, according to information provided to the team by the Elias Sports Bureau.
